I have currently only been awake for about an hour and a half (totally taking advantage of the last dregs of winter break for as long as I can), but as I wait for the last three episodes of Shameless season one to load, I find myself reflecting on what lies ahead this semester. And the insanity that is the fact that this is the last time I will divide a year into “semesters.”
Because whoa. This is my last semester of college and I kind-of have no idea how that happened. It’s crazy and terrifying and exciting and I am already so stressed out and classes don’t start until Tuesday.
To avoid exploding from this molotov cocktail of uncertainty and expectations, I am trying to focus on the various highs I ended last semester on (holla at that GPA – I know they don’t matter in the long run, but whatever) and the handful of things that I know are for sure happening in the coming months that can only bring happiness.
SXSW is sure to be a blast, especially because I now know more people who I might end up at shows with. Definitely going to try to make Marina and the Diamonds a priority that week, by whatever means I can manage. On top of that, one of my close friends from junior high/high school and my best friend for the last 10 years are both getting married this year. I'm hoping to make both of the weddings (even though one is in Boston) because I love weddings and I love both of them. I’m also seeing Sixx:AM in April and have my fingers crossed that I will somehow be able to pull off going to the Blogger Family Meet-Up in Portland this July as well. Unfortunately, that will depend on my future employment situation, which is murky at best. Time will tell.
I am also set to write a passion/think piece for an as-yet-unpublished publication, in addition to (hopefully!) more ORANGE things, so be on the lookout for all of that.
All in all, I know that this is going to be a huge year for me, full of tons of uncertainty about practically everything except for my stress level. But, honestly, as terrified as I am, I also think I’m ready. After all, in 22 years, I have yet to meet something I can’t handle.
Bonus entertainment recommendations: Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman” (it samples The Munsters theme, I mean c’mon); Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion; Friday the 13th (the original, from 1980; you’ll start out making fun of the outfits and long-haired Kevin Bacon and end up legitimately surprised by how the murders unfold); and Shameless US (as mentioned, I haven’t yet finished the first season, but I knew I’d love it before I started and it has completely lived up to my expectations so far).
